Our home remains Wanda Gardens, in the heart of Kakamega Town, a serene space where minds meet, stories breathe, and readers become thinkers, leaders, and changemakers.
At the Kakamega Book Club, we believe that every page turned brings us closer to wisdom, and every conversation draws us deeper into the art of living meaningfully. From that tree under which it all began, a forest of ideas has grown and it continues to thrive.

The story of

Kakamega Book Club

It all began with a simple idea and three dreamers sitting under a tree at the lush Wanda Gardens in Kakamega. The air was calm, the scent of blooming flowers hung gently around us, and a fleeting thought crossed my mind: What if we created a space where people could come together to read, reflect, and grow?

I shared this thought with my companions, and together we decided to bring it to life. We asked one of us Mbukha Shitemi to make a simple post inviting anyone who loved books to join this new journey. That post, made, would go on to change everything. She became our founding Secretary-General, and from that humble beginning in 2018, the Kakamega Book Club was born.
What started as a gathering of three passionate readers has grown into a vibrant intellectual community, now recognized as one of the most active and consistent book clubs in East and Central Africa. Since 2019, we have read and discussed over 90 books, never missing a single session. Each meeting has been a celebration of ideas, friendship, and the power of literature to transform lives.

Highlights of our Journey.

The Idea is born and actualized.

The Mustard Seed becomes a reality and we grow, despite the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The Club experiences tremendous growth.

We start holding our book club meetings outside our headquarters at Wanda Gardens. We started launching books published by our members.

We started showing movies based on books and introduced other activities including cockfighting.

We expand and requit members from all over the country.

The journey is still on.

Kakamega Book club is where readers meet to grow ideas and take Flight.
